The Kenya Colour Run is the country’s most creative 5k run! This unique run involves participants of all abilities and ages being doused from head to toe with coloured powder while they sprint, jog or walk 5km route on a marked course. The Kenya Colour Run is entirely focused on FUN so there is no competitive atmosphere, no recorded times and no age restrictions, all that matters is that you enjoy yourself and finish covered in loads of colour!
The event originated from India as the “Holi Festival” and is today a global event that promotes health and wellness by bringing the community together to participate in the “Most Creative 5K Run.” South Africa was the first country to host Color Run in Africa, followed by Zimbabwe in 2013.
Kenya Colour Run is under Africa Colour Run that organize events in Botswana, Zimbabwe and Namibia
Kenya Colour Run first event was in Nairobi in June 2017 and the second in Nanyuki in December. The main goal of these events was to promote peace awareness in midst of campaigns and elections as well as celebrate Kenya’s rich ethnic diversity.
Running challenges the mind and body and fun is simply what life should be about. For many years the perception would be that the word “Run and Fun” would not dare be seen in the same sentence. As organisers we were looking for a way where we could incorporate the word “Run and Fun” hence the “colour run” was born. The journey leading up to the first ever colour run was that of mixed emotions. As organisers we were highly excited to create a concept that would forever change the manner of running, “having fun while running”. 11th June 2017, the first ever colour run took place at The Uhuru Gardens Memorial Park in Nairobi. As with anything new, there is always concerns on how a new activity will be taken by the market. The concern soon passed as we saw thousands of participants filling up the venue getting ready to par-take in one of the most exciting events recently hosted by the country.
The success of the first “colour run” in Nairobi, Nanyuki and Nakuru has already led to many asking when the next one will be taking place. We have had thousands of interactions on our social media platforms expressing their gratitude for such a spectacular event. The success of such an event could definitely not have happened without the support of our participants, sponsors and partners. A special thank you to every one of you for making this event possible and successful.
