Mwea Classic Marathon will be held at the Wanguru Stadium on 21st July 2018. The Marathon uses “Smell the rice”, as its tag line and plays host to Olympic stars such as Douglas Wakihuri among others. The registration of the event is 1000 for adults and 200 for students and usually closes a day before the main event. The Mwea Marathon courses range from the Half Marathon (21 Kms) and the 10 kms Individual open… to the 5 kms Family run.
The Mwea Classic Marathon is held every year at Mwea Secondary School. We use “Smell the rice”, as our tag line.
The Mwea Classic Marathon, offers a fast flat course and scenic course, with a maximum elevation change of approximately 5500 meters above sea level at the rice growing Mwea, near Mount Kenya.
Mwea Classic Marathon rewards competitive males and females in a number of categories. The first three male and female runners in the 21 Km, 10 Km and 5 Km races receive gold, silver and bronze medals.

Mwea Classic Marathon is an intervention program for the youth. One of the methods of intervention is through mentor-ship programs in schools and colleges. The mentor-ship programs are meant to equip the youth with basic values for life, helping them identify role models and helping them choose careers.
